Joy Lea Morehead, 84 years old, of Milan, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at Milan Health Care Center in Milan, MO.

Joy was born May 22, 1934 in Harris, Missouri to John and Cleo (Hays) Barbee. On January 5, 1958, she married Hugh William Morehead, Jr., who survives her of the home. Also surviving: Four children, Stan Morehead and wife Shelly of Milan, John Daniel Morehead and wife Lauria of Warsaw, Sherry Brinkley and husband Jim of Milan, and Bridgett White (Dennis Shepherd) of Milan; 10 grandchildren, Josh Morehead, Jeremy Morehead, Tyler Morehead, Nathan Morehead, Nikki Eddy, Dakota Morehead, Crystal Brinkley, Justin Brinkley, Derick White, and Colton White; 8 great grandchildren, Cole Morehead, Myles Morehead, Kaden Watkins, Dre Morehead, Tate Morehead, Chloe, Brae, and Ayden Brinkley; and several nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by: her parents, two brothers, John Barbee, Jr. and Max Barbee; and two sisters, Jean Arnold and Betty Jo Sweem.

Joy was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Milan, MO. In her early years, in addition to being a full-time Mother and Wife, she ran the Sale barn Café. She was a wonderful cook and an exceptional gardener. Joy’s work ethic was next to none, and the size and quality of her gardens proved just that. She enjoyed bowling,  playing pitch, and fishing. Joy most enjoyed spending time with her family; especially, with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Services for Joy will be held at 2:30 PM on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Milan, MO. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday evening, also at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, with a Rosary at 7:30 PM. Schoene-Rushmeier Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Mary’s Catholic Church Cemetery or the Sullivan County Nutrition Site.
