Lona “Geraldine” Gooch, age 88 of Winigan, Missouri, died Monday, February 19, 2018 at her home.
Geraldine was the daughter of Dewey E. Riddle and Lola (Brantner) Riddle. She was born on her dad’s birthday June 5, 1929. On December 27, 1953, she married Harry “Leroy” Gooch.
Geraldine began teaching in 1947 in one-room school houses. All but one year of teaching was in the Linn Co. R-1 School district. She retired in 1987 from teaching.
In 1956, she and her husband purchased a farm near Winigan. They raised Black Angus Cattle. She continued with the farm following the death of her husband in 1971. Also preceding her in death are her parents, four sisters, Deloris Riddle in-infancy, Frances Cordray and husband Arlo, Fern and husband Arthur Peavler, and Maxine and husband Billie Briggs, two sister-in-laws, Ruby and husband George Guyer, and Evelyn and husband Glynn Robins, and a brother-in-law, Leslie and wife Audrey Gooch.
Survivors include one daughter, Lona Jackson and son-in-law John “Eric” Jackson of Kirksville and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Geraldine loved the farm, raising cattle, and doing yard work.
Funeral services for Geraldine will be held 2:00 PM, Friday, February 23, 2018 at Ruschmeier Funeral Home in Green City. Burial will follow at the North Salem Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled for 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Thursday evening at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the North Salem Cemetery or the First Baptist Church in Winigan.
