Freddie Joe “Fred” Courtney, 58 years old, of Milan, Missouri passed away Wednesday May 17, 2017 at his home.
Fred was born October 18, 1958 in Milan to Bobbie and Mary (Scott) Courtney. In 1976 he married Rose Russell and two children were born to this marriage, Shane and Mindy. He later married Cindy Wilkin. He later married Selena (Shaw) Courtney and she preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death were his father and step-father, Lonnie Courtney.
Survivors include: one son, Shane Courtney (Sandra Richardson) of Milan; one daughter, Mindy Hanen (Chris) of Lake Ozark, Missouri; four step-children Tony Wilkin of Kansas, Austin Williams of Novinger, Ashley Williams of Hawaii, and Bryce May (Jaclyn) of Milan; three grandchildren, Chelsey Courtney, Kaylee Courtney, and MaKayla Courtney; three step grandchildren, Shelby May, Lexi May, and Jacob Search; his mother, Mary Courtney of Milan; three siblings, Rick Courtney (Donna) of Maryland, Debbie Wright (Mike) of Trenton, Missouri, and Joe Courtney of Browning; a step brother, Mike Courtney (Georgiana) of Milan; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by: his father, Bobbie Joe Courtney; and stepfather, Lonnie Courtney.
Fred was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County. He started his welding career in California then worked at Landmark Manufacturing as a supervisor over welding in Gallatin, Missouri. For several years he worked at Farmland Foods and was an independent contractor from 1992 to 1997 primarily building hog barns. Fred enjoyed hunting, fishing, and betting on boxing fights. He loved spending time with his grandkids. Fred is probably in heaven teaching God how to hand fish.
Fred’s wishes were to be cremated. There will be a memorial gathering held from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, Sunday, May 21, 2017 at Schoene-Ruschmeier Funeral Home in Milan. Contributions in Fred’s memory are suggested to the Campground Church and Cemetery.
