Gail Edwin Hayes, 72 years old, of Milan, Missouri passed away Thursday, June 27, 2019 at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville.
Edwin was born June 30, 1946 to Van and Thelma (Lunsford) Hayes in Milan. In 1971 he married Sheryl Carolan in Illinois, one son was born to this marriage. Survivors include: One son, Gail Van Hayes and wife Fabby of Milan; grandchildren, Kendalyn Hayes, Maverick Hayes, and Bentley Hayes; step grandchildren, Amy Hernandez and Christopher Hernandez; One brother, Larry Hayes and wife Joyce of Milan; sisters, Dora Mae James of Hughesville, Missouri, Sandra Sinclair of Trenton, Missouri, Lorna and husband Franklin Bywaters of Chillicothe, Missouri, Carroll Franklin of Chillicothe, Sherry and husband Paul Oder of Chillicothe, Jane and husband Joe Anderson of Milan, Kathy Rogers and husband Jim of Gallatin, Missouri, Patty and husband Ronnie Banner of Milan, and Jackie and husband Roger Hoover of Chillicothe; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; brothers, Gary Hayes, Bob Hayes, and Bill Hayes; sisters, Doris Harding, Helen Johnson, Betty Mullinix, and Phyllis Oldham.
Edwin grew up in Milan, graduating from Milan High School. He worked in California as a welder with his brother, Gary for several years, after Gary passed away Edwin went on the road welding for Vernon Paving. In 1991 he returned to Milan operating heavy equipment and working construction. He was currently the owner and operator of Empty Pockets in Milan. Edwin loved his grandkids and spending time with them.
A visitation for Edwin will be held 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Monday, July 1, 2019 at Schoene-Ruschmeier Funeral Home in Milan. Cremation will follow and a Celebration of Life will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Saturday, July 6, 2019 at Empty Pockets in Milan. A private inurnment will be held at a later date at Oakwood Cemetery.
