Barbara Ellen Johnson
Barbara Ellen Johnson, 77 years old, of Milan, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at Life Care Center in Brookfield, Missouri.
Barbara was born September 24, 1940 in Milan to J.W. and Lucy (Collins) Sevier. On September 28, 1958 she married Gordon Lee Johnson in Milan, he survives her. Also surviving are: one son, Jeff Johnson and wife Deidra of Chillicothe, Missouri; two step grandchildren, Charles Clayton Tullos and Joseph Chase Tullos; one brother, Gail Sevier and wife Alvina of Denver, Colorado; many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, James Thomas Sevier.
Barbara was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County, and was a member of the First Baptist Church, teaching Bible School, singing in the church choir and playing piano for many years. Barbara graduated from Milan C-II in 1958, she then attended Trenton Junior College, and graduated from Truman State University with Honors and a Masters Degree in Education. In her early years, she was a telephone operator, and also worked at Poole’s Clothing Store. Barbara worked as a teacher’s aide and secretary, and then was a 6th Grade teacher for 18 years. She was a former Rainbow Girl, and a member of the Missouri State Teachers Association. Barbara enjoyed reading and collecting antiques, mainly glassware.
Funeral services for Barbara will be held 2:00 PM, Friday, March 2, 2018 at Schoene-Ruschmeier Funeral Home in Milan. Burial will follow at the Mt. Zion Cemetery, Southeast of Milan. A visitation is scheduled for 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Thursday evening at the funeral home.
