            Miles Jaques, Jr., 96, of Milan, Missouri, passed away Sunday morning, August 20, 2017 at Sullivan County Memorial Hospital in Milan.

            The son of Miles and Bessie (Smith) Jaques, he was born September 2, 1920 in Sullivan County near Milan.  On September 2, 1942 near Pollock, Missouri he married Dorothy Louise Squire and she preceded him in death on February 17, 1994.  Also preceding him were his parents; a grandson, Shane McVey; a step great grandson, Caysn Hall; two half brothers, Peoble Jaques and Audrey Jaques; one half sister, Mary Hawkins Schoonover; and one daughter-in-law, Conni Jaques.

            Miles is survived by one son, Robert Jaques of Milan; three daughters, Virginia Shaw of Keytesville, Missouri, Barbara McVey and husband Virgle of Aurora, Oregon, and Carol Cowgill and husband Cully of Milan; 11 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 5 step great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren; 7 step great great grandchildren; two sisters-n-law, Edith Squire of Macon, Missouri and Dee Squire of Green City, Missouri; several nieces and nephews including Donald Lee Jaques and Lorrine Jaques Cash who grew up in the same generation as Miles; and many cousins including Inez King and Mildred Meeks.

            Miles was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County.  He was a farmer all his life and for 30 years he worked for the Missouri Department of Transportation retiring in 1985 as a foreman.  Miles was a devout Christian and accepted Christ and became a member of the Liberty Union Baptist Church at the age of 13.  He served as Sunday School Superintendent from 1949 until 2008 and on August 15, 1982 he was ordained as a Deacon of the Church.  He was very active in 4-H and other activities that his children were involved with.  Miles enjoyed reading, watching westerns, fishing, woodworking, and traveling.  He had traveled to every state except Hawaii.

            Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, August 25, 2017 at Schoene-Ruschmeier Funeral Home in Milan with Rev. Russell Abbott officiating.  A visitation is scheduled for 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Thursday evening, at the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Bairdstown Cemetery north of Milan.  Casket bearers will be Roy Johnson, Mike Johnson, Darin Jaques, Jon Crawford, Jeff Crawford, and Eldo Eaglen.  Honorary bearers are Don Shaver, Joe Squire, Rick Squire, Rod Squire, Bill Broyles, Glenn Broyles, David Broyles, Lewis Olmstead, and Carl DeRyke.

            The family has suggested memorials be made to the Bairdstown Cemetery in Miles’s memory.
