Mary Margaret McCaughey, 91 years old, of Milan, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at Kirksville Manor Care in Kirksville, Missouri.
Margaret was born May 8, 1926 in Humphreys, Missouri to Vern and Elgeva (McKay) Seckington. On November 27, 1942 she married Edgar L. Stroud, to this union three children were born, he preceded her in death in 1980. On March 5, 1981, she married John Francis McCaughey, he preceded her in death in 2012.
Margaret is survived by: a daughter, Mary Clay and husband Vernon of Ft. Dodge, Iowa; a son, Richard Stroud and wife Patti of Milan; 7 grandchildren, Teresa Muckey (Tom), Tina Blunt (David), Teri James (Tony), Brian Stroud (Amy), Shelby Watson (John), Jana Stroud (Curtis Sanford), Nicole Anderson (Jerry); 3 step grandchildren, Derek McCaughey, Jacob McCaughey, and Richelle Barry; 14 Great Grandchildren, Kevin Muckey, Monica Rentz (Jesse), Meghen Blunt, Hayley Noynaert(Joe), Heather Taylor (Drake), Rylee Stroud, Carter Stroud, Kramer Watson, Gage Walker Watson, Chance Watson, Ashlyn Stroud, Mackenzie Anderson, Hannah Anderson, and Emily Anderson; 5 great great grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Betty Stroud of Milan; and several nieces and nephews. Also preceding her in death: her parents; a son, Jim Stroud, a step-son, Richard Lee McCaughey, and 2 brothers, Gerald Seckington and Harold Seckington.
Margaret lived all her life in Sullivan County, and belonged to the Church of God in Reger. She worked as a LPN in Dr. Simpson’s office, later at Sullivan County Memorial Hospital. Margaret and Thelma McCaughey then owned and operated Infirmary Nursing Home for several years. She also was a nurse at Sullivan County Health Department for many years and owned and operated the Fashion Hut in Milan until retirement. Margaret enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping.
Funeral services for Margaret will be held 3:00 PM, Saturday, June 17, 2017 at Schoene-Ruschmeier Funeral Home in Milan. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Milan. A visitation will be held 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Friday evening at the funeral home.
