Ramah Laverne Custer, 99 years old, of Milan, Missouri, died Saturday, December 23, 2017 at Sullivan County Memorial Hospital in Milan. The daughter of Elmer Woodson and Susie May (Harl) Jennings. She was born in Linn County, near North Salem, Missouri on January 9, 1918.
On October 5, 1936, she married John Meryl Custer, he preceded her in death January 9, 1993. Also preceding her in death were: her parents; two brothers, Leland Hadley Jennings of Milan, and Alton Woodson Jennings of Linneus, Missouri; one sister, Elpha Helen (Jennings) Cokerham of Brookfield; one infant sister; and one grandson, Larry Wayne Custer whom she loved very much.
She is survived by: two sons, John Wayne Custer and wife Bessie of Milan and Larry Dean Custer and companion Debbie Gray of Milan; two grandchildren, Penny Lou Kent and husband Scott of DeLand, Florida and Christopher Dean Custer of Kansas City, Kansas; four great grandchildren, Ryan Kent, Sean Kent, Licie Custer, and Blake Custer; a grand daughter-in-law, Amy Custer and husband Gary Reynolds of Blue Springs, Missouri four nieces, Juanita Schreiner of Chillicothe, Missouri, Joyce Shanks of Browning, Missouri, Louise Dean of Kirksville, and Betty Bloss of Brookfield; two nephews, Kermit Jennings of Independence, Missouri, and Raymond Jennings of Redmond, Washington.
Laverne worked at Con Agra for 35 years. After her retirement she joined Lydia’s Circle and quilted many years, she also enjoyed gardening. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Milan. Laverne loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Funeral services for Laverne will be held 11:00 AM, Thursday, December 28, 2017 at Schoene-Ruschmeier Funeral Home in Milan. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Milan. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, starting at 10:00 AM.
