John William Grice
John William Grice, 89, died August 19, 2017 in Moberly. Mo. He had been a patient at the Moberly Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for over two years. He was born in Browning, MO January 20, 1928, the son of Dr. Victor D Grice and Frances (Bond) Grice.
He attended the Browning School and graduated in 1945 as Senior Class President. He attended Missouri University for two years. On October 2, 1948 he was united in marriage with Mary Elisabeth Smith. They lived on a farm south of Browning for 67 years. They have five children: John Victor, Elizabeth Ann (Betsy), Mary Lou, Nancy Margaret and James William.
He bought the Peterson Insurance Agency. He and his wife operated it for 25 years, adding a Real Estate Agency. He operated the Browning Farm Supply, Inc. for several years.
He served as Democrat committeeman for the North Benton Township for over 60 years. He was a township board member and trustee. He was a direct on the Linn Co R-1 School Board serving as president for several years. He was a member of the Browning Civic Club and Youth Athletic Association, assisting with the Browning Homecoming and coaching boy’s baseball for over 20 years.
John was a caregiver, caring for his wife, children, his mother-in-law, his father, brother, and uncle.
His hobby was quail hunting, carpentry, and coaching baseball.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father, his brother, Phillip Bond Grice and a granddaughter, Amy Elizabeth Head.
He is survived by his wife, Mary, his children, Dr. John Victor Grice and his wife, Kitty Jo of Raymore, MO, Elizabeth Ann (Betsy) Head and her husband Jim of Moberly, MO, Mary Lou Hampton and her husband, Dave of St. Peters, MO, Nancy Heimann and her husband, Bob of Centralia, MO and James William Grice and his wife Amy of Overland Park, KS. Eleven grandchildren John Lawrence Grice and his wife Rachel of Liberty, MO, Dr. Jared Victor Grice and his wife, Jenny of Nashville, TN, Clifford James Head and his wife, Kristi of Holts Summit, MO, Max Aaron Head, Moberly, MO, Joseph Dylan Spray, Kahoka, MO, Lucy Margaret Mills and her husband Justin of Centralia MO, Elizabeth Joan and Mary Christine Heimann of Centralia, MO, Rachel Fame, William Perry, and Emily Renee Grice of Overland Park, KS, 4 great granddaughters, Emma Fennel of Holts Summit, Greta Bea and Jettie Jane Grice of Liberty, MO and Claire Elise Mills of Centralia, MO
Services will be held 3:00 PM at the Browning United Methodist Church on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 with Rev. Sue Lambert officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, starting at 2:00 PM. Music will be a trumpet solo, “It Is Well With My Soul” by Max Head and a vocal solo by Nancy Heimann “It Is no Secret”.
Interment will be in Jenkins Cemetery.
