Donald Louis “Smoke” DeRyke, 79 years old, of Milan, Missouri, passed away Monday, September 25, 2017 at his home.
Donald was born November 3, 1937 in Chadron, Nebraska to Louis Carl and Neva (Jones) DeRyke. On May 19, 1962 in Pollock, Missouri, he married Mary Alice Wilson, she survives him of the home. Also surviving is: two sons, Kenny DeRyke and wife Janice of Milan, and Carl DeRyke and wife Christina of Pollock, Missouri; one daughter, Lisa Sharp and husband Todd of Milan; 14 grandchildren, Kenner DeRyke (Nichole), Krista Trent (Jeff), Kevin DeRyke (Rain Allison), Levi Greybuffalo(Ashley), Scooter Greybuffalo (Brenda), Brandon Parker, Jonathan Parker, Daniel Parker, Kristina Brazeal, Christian Brazeal, SummerRose Greybuffalo, Samantha DeRyke, Amber DeRyke, and Jeremy Keller (Lucretia); 28 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren; one sister, Arlene White of Princeton, Missouri; two sister-in-laws, Bonnie Wilson of Green City and Doris DeRyke of Columbia, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews.
Donald was preceded in death by: his parents, one son, Danny DeRyke; 2 granddaughters, Olivia DeRyke and Jennifer Ledford; a daughter-in-law, Dona DeRyke; a brother, Dale DeRyke; and two brother-in-laws, Laverne Wilson and James White.
Donald lived most of his life in Sullivan County, and had attended the Boynton Baptist Church. In his early years, Donald worked for Howard Construction, and worked on the construction of Lake Thunderhead. Donald farmed, owned and operated a mechanic shop for a while, hauled turkeys for Kenny Broyles for several years, then worked at Banquet Foods for a few years. Donald enjoyed riding motorcycles with three generations of his family and his John Deere Tractor. He liked his coffee cup, going camping, and going to the mountains. He especially loved spending time with his family and his two dogs.
Funeral services for Donald will be held 3:00 PM, Thursday, September 28, 2017, at Schoene-Ruschmeier Funeral Home in Milan. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, North of Milan. A visitation is scheduled for 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
