Connie Marie Michael, 76 years old, of Milan, Missouri passed away on Monday, May 15, 2017 at Sullivan County Memorial Hospital in Milan.
Connie was born on March 20, 1941 in Maryville, Missouri to Darrow and Ruby (Gray) Loop. On October 23, 1963 in Kansas City, Missouri, she married Cecil J. Michael, who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters: Shelly Forster and husband Mark of Milan, Stephanie Somers and husband Scott of Milan; two grandchildren, Drew Forster and Alyssa Bankus and husband Cooper; four sisters Myrt Williams and husband Gene of Kansas City, Sue Phelps and husband Chuck of Grain Valley, Missouri, Carol Coats and husband Bob of Cabool, Missouri, and Mary Jane Bunning and husband John of Denver, Colorado; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and best friend and sister in law Zeta Mae Gilvin.
Connie grew up in Kansas City and was a member of the Gladstone Presbyterian Church. She was a graduate of North Kansas City High School and Saint Luke’s School of Nursing. She began her nursing career in Kingsville, Texas where her husband CJ was enlisted in the United States Navy. The couple moved to Milan in 1966, and Connie was employed by the Putnam County Memorial Hospital as a registered nurse for several years before taking time off to raise her girls and to help CJ on the family farm. In 1980, she started working at the Sullivan County Health Department as a registered nurse. Soon after, she became the administrator of the Health Department where she was employed until her retirement in 2006.
In addition to work, Connie was a member of the Pollock chapter of the Eastern Star, where she served in several positions including Worthy Matron. She also served two terms on the Sullivan County Ambulance District during its early years and is a member of the local book club. In her spare time, Connie enjoyed reading, gardening, helping CJ on the farm, attending her grandchildren’s activities especially baseball and softball games, and watching her beloved Royals. She was a fan before it was cool to be a fan.
Funeral services for Connie will be held at 2:30 pm, on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at Schoene-Ruschmeier Funeral Home in Milan. Burial will follow at Bairdstown Cemetery northwest of Milan. A visitation is scheduled from 6:00-8:00 pm on Friday, May 19 at the funeral home.Memorial contributions are suggested to Sullivan County Memorial Hospital.
